Table Tennis Australia are pleased to announce the re-appointment of two esteemed members and the appointment of one new member to the National Umpires and Referees Committee (URC).

As reappointed members, both Alan Hopkins (VIC) and Dr. Kenneth Wong (QLD), have demonstrated unwavering commitment and expertise in ensuring the highest standards of officiating for Table Tennis in Australia. Additionally, we are excited to welcome Lenore Roder (SA), as a new member who brings fresh perspectives and valuable knowledge to the committee. All three individuals bring a wealth of experience and dedication to the sport and will play a pivotal role in overseeing the recruitment, training and development of both umpires and referees.

About the committee members:
Alan Hopkins (VIC). Highly regarded Alan has previously served on umpires and referees committees for the ITTF, TTV and TTA. Alan has played competitive table tennis for over 40 years, and has officiated at numerous State, National and International events including the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games and 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Lenore Roder (SA). An esteemed International Umpire and State Referee, Lenore is known for her exceptional judgment and commitment to advancing the sport's officiating standards. In 2024 Lenore was recognised as the 2024 Female Official of the Year, in the TTA National Coaches and Volunteer Awards, a well-deserved recipient.

Dr. Kenneth Wong (QLD). Kenneth has served as a trainer and assessor for Table Tennis QLD since 2022 and been a member of the Officials Committee for both TTQ and TTA. Kenneth has over 10 years of experience as a State Referee and International Umpire, during which he officiated at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

URC Chair and TTA Board Member, Samuel Miller shared the following statement:
"We are delighted to reappoint Alan and Kenneth, two distinguished individuals, whose dedication and knowledge continue to advance the URC’s objectives to attract and develop officials in the lead up to Brisbane 2032. We also extend a warm welcome to Lenore Roder, as our newest member, whose skills and insights will contribute to achieving our officiating goals. We look forward to the continued growth of qualified officials in the sport with this outstanding team."

The Umpires and Referees Committee is responsible for the recruitment, training and performance of officials in our sports events, ensuring that the highest standards are met in all competitions. The appointments reflect TTA’s ongoing commitment to elevating the sport and ensuring the integrity of our tournaments.

Each member will serve a two-year term on the committee, and TTA are confident these esteemed individuals will contribute significantly to the growth of officials in table tennis, helping to create an environment where fair play, inclusiveness and excellence are always upheld.

Officiating is one of the best ways to be involved in table tennis. There is a genuine pathway available for people to officiate from the grassroots right through to the Olympic/Paralympic Games, and you can make some fantastic friendships along the way.
