TTA Board ratifies new National Selection Policy and updated National Rankings Regulations
Published Fri 07 Sep 2018
The TTA Board has ratified a new National Selection Policy and updated National Rankings Regulations.
The new National Selection Policy is based on the previous document, with some noteworthy amendments:
- Simplified wherever possible to include the same rules for para, able-bodied senior and able-bodied junior.
- The National Selection Panel will be comprised of an Independent Member (Chairperson), the National Head Coach whose team/squad is being selected and one Board Member. Note that the National Selection Panel can and should consult with other non-voting people when making decisions, i.e. National Assistant Coach, National Program Manager (Para) etc.
- The Appeals Policy section has been amended. This now provides the opportunity for athletes to appeal decisions that have been made, which is a shift from only being able to appeal whether the correct processes had been followed. Note that players are only able to appeal decisions that have been made where they are manifestly unreasonable.
- The decisions of the National Selection Panel will be final (except in the event of a successful Appeal). This is a shift as previously all selections needed Board ratification.

The updated National Rankings Regulations is based on the previous document, with some noteworthy amendments:
- A National Veterans Ranking List will now be produced.
- An Under 11 Ranking List will now be produced given the 2018 National Junior Championships will include Under 11 events.
- In order to be eligible to be nationally ranked, a player must have competed in one of the last two National Championships and have won at least one match in either the designated individual singles event or team event.
- Note that Ratings Central will still be used to form a provisional rankings list, however the National Selection Panel can adjust this list as required before the final National Rankings List is produced, i.e. Ratings Central is not the National Ranking List on its own.
