Day 7 produced some mammoth results for the Table Tennis athletes at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Three Para athletes are hunting Commonwealth Games medals as they progress to the semi-finals.

Li Na Lei and Qian Yang both had dominant 3-0 wins over their opponents and Ma Lin won by walk over. Amanda Tscharke, Danni di Toro and Jessy Chen all played spirited matches and fought to the end.

Alois Rosairo National Head Coach (Para) said there were lots of learnings to come from the Para Squad’s efforts at the Games.

“I am pleased with the efforts of the whole Para squad, with lots of learning and lots of great results. Looking forward to the big morning of semi-finals tomorrow,” Rosario said.

Jian Fang Lay, Min Hyung Jee and Yangzi Liu all played excellent matches to progress through to the Round of 16. Yangzi fought hard to win 4-3 over Malaysia’s Ying Ho.

National Head Coach (Able-Bodied) John Murphy said it was a busy day for players and coaches but he is happy with the team’s performances.

“Tomorrow is a big day for the team as we're still in the hunt in all five able-bodied individual events. We’ll rest up as much as possible tonight and look to come out firing tomorrow,” he said.

Day 8 will be huge for our table tennis athletes as we hunt for three Para medals and to progress in all 5 individual events for the able-bodied competition.
