The Hunt for Medals is on
Published Sat 06 Aug 2022
Day 8 saw huge success from our table tennis athletes. Three able-bodied semi-finals have been secured and three Para medals will be on their way back to Australia.
In a huge day of competition our athletes showed their level of class and determination once again.
Qian Yang and Li Na Lei will meet each other in and all Aussie Women's Para Gold Medal match and Ma Lin will meet Josh Stacey of Wales in his Men's Para Gold Medal match.
Alois Rosario National Head Coach (Para) said he is pleased with the team’s effort and is looking forward to bringing home 3 medals.
“An all-Australian final between Li Na Lei and Qian Yang guarantees gold and silver. Ma Lin is also in the final and we hope that he'll bring home gold too,” he said.
Our able-bodied athletes move onto semi-finals in three events with Yangzi Liu progressing in Women’s Singles, Min Hyung Jee and Nicholas Lum progressing in Mixed Doubles and Nicholas and Finn Luu in Men’s Doubles.
National Head Coach (Able-Bodied) John Murphy said the team had another very strong day and is looking forward to being on the medal hunt.
“Winning our way through to three semi finals and still being in the hunt in a fourth event is pleasing.
“We've given ourselves good opportunities to add to our medal tally and we're looking forward to putting our best foot forward tomorrow.”
The Women’s Doubles continue tomorrow and see our two pairs chase down the semi-finals in that event.
