TABLE TENNIS MAKING A RACKET AT SILVERTON!
Published Fri 24 Aug 2018
During Term 2, 2018 Silverton Primary School in Victoria participated in Table Tennis as part of the Sporting Schools program. All 13 classes in Grade Three to Six participated in sessions and utilised equipment sourced through Table Tennis Australia. Over 300 students learnt to forehand, backhand, push, add spin and use their feet.
Such was the interest generated from the program, a number of students decided to complete an inquiry project on the sport, which included making their own rackets. “I just really like Table Tennis, it was really fun playing with friends.” Dan Grade 4. “I liked learning about Table Tennis, I am really proud of my racket; I look forward to playing with it in Tournaments.” Alex Grade 4.
“Students from the outset were really engaged in Table Tennis and it was really pleasing to see their understanding of the game and skills improve over the unit. Such is the interest in Table Tennis we will be starting up a lunch time club in Term 4.” Mark Blundell PE teacher, Silverton Primary.
