Suzy Javor Awarded TTA Life Membership

TTA is pleased to announce that Ms. Suzy Javor has been awarded Life Membership of TTA for longstanding and valued service to table tennis in Australia. Suzy’s nomination for TTA Life Membership was unanimously supported by the State and Territory Associations at the TTA AGM on Sunday 19 April 2020.
Suzy Javor is arguably the greatest ever Australian table tennis player. Humble in victory and gracious on the rare occasions she experienced defeat, Javor’s career was both lengthy and exceptional at international, national and state level. Known for her love of the game, commitment to training and a steely determination, Javor’s record has stood the test of time. Javor’s career highlights include, but are not limited to:
INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS
- World Champion in Women’s Doubles at the World Youth Championships.
- Bronze Medallist in Women’s Doubles at the 1953 World Championships.
- 2 x Hungarian Champion in Women’s Doubles, 1955 and 1956.
- Gold Medallist in Women’s Singles at the Swiss Invitational.
- 2 x Maccabi Games Women’s Singles Champion.
NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS
- 10 x Australian Champion in Women’s Singles. Javor competed in the National Championships on 10 occasions between 1958-1970, meaning she remained undefeated in Women’s Singles.
- 8 x Australian Champion in Women’s Doubles. Javor played in 10 Women’s Doubles finals, winning 8 with 5 different partners.
- 1 x Australian Champion in Mixed Doubles. Javor played in 5 Mixed Doubles finals.
- 10 x Australian Champion in Women’s Teams. Overall Women’s Teams win-loss record of 105-5, including 7 years as undefeated.
- 11 x Australian Women’s Number 1 Ranking.
- 2 x Victor Barna Memorial Trophy winner, as the Australian Senior Player of the Year.
- Inducted into the Australian Sport Hall of Fame in 1985 and remains the only table tennis player to receive this accolade.
- Inducted into the TTA Hall of Fame in 2008.
STATE ACHIEVEMENTS
- Victorian Open Championships 1957-1972: 11 x Women’s Singles Champion, 12 x Women’s Doubles Champion, 7 x Mixed Doubles Champion.
- Victorian Closed Championships 1961-1977: 3 x Women’s Singles Champion, 4 x Women’s Doubles Champion, 1 x Mixed Doubles Champion.
- Tasmania Open Championships 1960: 1 x Women’s Singles Champion, 1 x Women’s Doubles Champion, 1 x Mixed Doubles Champion.
- Queensland Open Championships 1968: 1 x Women’s Singles Champion, 1 x Women’s Doubles Champion, 1 x Mixed Doubles Champion.
- New South Wales Open Championships 1968: 1 x Women’s Singles Champion, 1 x Women’s Doubles Champion.
- Victorian Winter Pennant: Competed for 15 seasons, winning 14 premierships with an overall win-loss record of 649-16, including 10 undefeated seasons.
- 13 x Victorian Women’s Number 1 Ranking.
OVERALL RECORD
- 211 x career titles (42 x runner-up), comprised of 95 x Women’s Singles titles (3 x runner-up), 72 x Women’s Doubles titles (16 runner-up), 44 x Mixed Doubles titles (23 x runner-up).
