Scott Houston Signs Contract Extension
Published Thu 29 Apr 2021
TTA and the TTA Board are pleased to announce that CEO Scott Houston has signed a two-year contract extension, which sees his tenure extended until April 2024.
Houston originally commenced his employment with TTA in October 2017 as Interim CEO before taking on the role in an ongoing capacity in April 2018.
TTA President Graham Symons said, “The TTA Board is very pleased to extend Scott Houston's contract through to April 2024. Scott has been one of the key factors in TTA’s recovery. We are now focused on building on that base to advance table tennis and we believe Scott is the right person to lead the team to grow the sport in Australia.
“Some of our key priorities over the next few years are to work with our State/Territory Associations to grow the participation base, especially with young children, to lift the image and to raise the profile of the sport, and to broaden our revenue base. As the 6th most popular sport worldwide, table tennis doesn't currently get the recognition that it deserves in Australia and we want to rectify that.”
Houston was pleased with the contract extension, commenting “I am extremely proud of the progress that TTA has made over the past 3.5 years. When I look back to where we started from in September 2017 with the organisation on the brink, and compare that to where we are now, it is very satisfying.
“TTA’s financial and governance recovery is well documented and was an absolute necessity at the time. However, I am equally pleased with the progress that has been made across all areas of the business.
“We hit new participation records in 2018 and 2019 and our high performance program continues to be on the rise. Moreover, we have launched multiple new initiatives including Spinneroos, the Table Tennis Corporate Cup, the TTA Tour, the Past Players and Alumni program, the National Database, revamped the National Championships, and many more.
“I want to acknowledge the tremendous support that has been pivotal to TTA’s resurgence. The TTA Board has backed me and provided their full support from day one, the TTA staff continue to go above and beyond, and the State/Territory Associations have continued to work collaboratively for the greater good.
“I know that I am very fortunate to have this opportunity. As a lifelong, passionate table tennis person, it really is a dream to hold this position with TTA. I am just as motivated today as when I started and I will continue to work hard to help drive table tennis in Australia to new heights. Great progress has been made, but there’s so much more on the horizon too”.
TTA congratulates Scott on his contract extension.
