New South Wales Spinneroos provider raring to go
Published Tue 26 Apr 2022
E.L.I.T.E Table Tennis Club is looking forward to bouncing back into Spinneroos with the new term just around the corner.
Having first got involved in Spinneroos in early 2021, co-founder Tony Lee, an Accredited TTA Level 2 National Table Tennis Coach, says it’s been a great addition to the club with some participants continuing their development.
“Two participants from last year are now involved in private coaching and are looking to start playing in tournaments,” he said.
Spinneroos is an entry-level for primary school-aged students to learn the basic skills of table tennis in a fun and safe environment.
ELITE, which was one of the first clubs in Sydney to launch TTA’s Spinneroos program, aims to promote and develop table tennis within the Australian communities by providing members, especially juniors, with the facilities and opportunities to improve their skills.
While it hasn’t been a smooth ride getting Spinneroos off the ground with the lockdown in Sydney in mid-June saw the postponement of Term 3 to the December school holidays.
With the upcoming term of Spinneroos set to be the first of 2022 for ElITE, Lee is hoping that the rest of this year will see the program flourish.
“It’s going well. We’d love to see more people getting involved,” Lee said. “I’m looking forward to this new group, we already know one-two of them and we have a few coming up who are set to register.
“We would like to continue doing this, providing a safe environment for them to learn,” he added.
Table Tennis NSW Vice President Ted Davis believes Spinneroos is a great program to give young children an introduction to the sport.
“It gives us a lead in to have young people playing our sport and it gives them a taste of what it is like as well as the ability to have an accredited coach working with them to show them how to produce some of the shots in our game,” he said
“Parents are always looking for something for their kids to do. I believe that any parent should be encouraged to have their child try as many different things as they can because the kids will stay involved in these things if they enjoy them and are good at them.”
