New Found Faith in Table Tennis!
Published Mon 14 May 2018
Students of Faith Baptist Christian School in Burua, Queensland (near Gladstone) were fortunate to receive expert table tennis coaching in Term 2 (2018) from Dave Delpratt, visiting from the Bundaberg and District Table Tennis Association. A full day of Tops Table Tennis coaching (and some additional equipment) was made possible through funding from the national Sporting Schools Programme.
Students were given a wide range of drills by Dave, from simply holding the racket correctly, serving and playing a full range of shots. All students attending on the day enjoyed the training and developed new skills. Even students who had never played before showed great interest and improvement by the end of the session. Everyone involved was encouraged to continue their participation in the sport beyond the program, with many looking forward to competing in Rockhampton on 19 May 2018.
Enthusiasm for table tennis at the school grows everyday. Phil Coates, a member of the pastoral care team and key driver of the program at Faith Baptist, believes “…this initiative will help develop table tennis players at the school, while also strengthening participation in the sport across the region”.
