New Dates Confirmed - 2021 National Senior, Youth, Junior & Para Championships
Published Thu 22 Jul 2021
TTA is pleased to advise that new dates have been approved for the 2021 National Senior, Youth, Junior & Para Championships. The event will now be held from 12-19 December 2021 and the event will remain at Caloundra Indoor Stadium, Sunshine Coast.
When making the decision, TTA considered multiple points, including:
- Although holding the event in the term 3 school holidays was the majority preference in the participant survey, it was deemed that the timeframe is too soon for the current COVID-19 lockdowns to be under control and unrestricted interstate travel to resume.
- Caloundra Indoor Stadium was unavailable in the term 3 school holidays, but is available from 12-19 December 2021.
- According to current Government projections, all Australians who wish to receive a COVID-19 vaccination should have the opportunity to by December. This should mean that by December, the chance of lockdowns occurring is lower and the chance of unrestricted travel being available is higher.
- 12-19 December 2021 provides sufficient time for TTA to organise and manage the event, in conjunction with other National Events on the TTA calendar.
- 12-19 December 2021 provides sufficient time for States/Territories to organise their teams and for participants/families to plan their travel.
TTA also noted that the selected dates coincides with the final week of school in some States/Territories. However, this was not deemed to be a critical issue due to:
- Older students typically finish their exams well before the final week of school.
- For younger students, missing the final week of school is unlikely to cause any serious disruptions to their education.
FURTHER INFORMATION:
- An updated Event Prospectus will be distributed in the coming weeks.
- Updated entry forms will be distributed in the coming weeks.
We look forward to seeing everyone on the Sunshine Coast in December.
