National Volunteer Week 2022 - Recognising Our Volunteers

Published Mon 16 May 2022

Today marks the beginning of National Volunteer Week for 2022. Our President, Graham Symons, has penned a letter to recognise and thank all the volunteers that make our sport great.

"This coming week is recognized in Australia as National Volunteer Week, with the theme for 2022 being “Better Together”.

Table Tennis could not continue to exist as an organized sport without our volunteers, especially at club level, but also at state/territory and national level. We depend on volunteers for club and many state/territory administration functions, for organizing junior programs, seniors’ programs, tournaments, officiating functions, club social events, transport, support for representative teams, and for governance of the sport at all levels.

Table Tennis Australia recognizes outstanding individuals each year through the Volunteer Awards (officials, administrators, club/association of the year, and service awards), however, today I want to acknowledge and thank all our table tennis volunteers – you perform an absolutely essential function and without your continued efforts our sport could not exist in its present form.

As this year’s theme reminds us, volunteering is not just vital for the sport but, in bringing people together, is an essential ingredient in the inclusive and welcoming nature of our Australian community."
