TTA is pleased to announce we have been successful in obtaining more than $350,000 in funding from Sport Australia through the Move It Aus Participation Grants Program. Through this significant amount of funding, the following key initiatives will be developed:

1) The development of an Entry Level Program to engage kids in table tennis at a younger age.
2) The establishment of Corporate Table Tennis program, with a focus on increasing the number of women playing and engaged through table tennis.
3) The development of technology platforms to run 1) and 2) above and generate other efficiencies across the sport as a whole.

The programs are expected to be rolled out over the next 12 months and we look forward to providing further updates along the way.

Upon signing the Funding Agreement, TTA CEO Scott Houston commented, “TTA is ecstatic to receive this funding from Sport Australia as it will help us to engage new audiences, grow participation and membership numbers and establish new and ongoing revenue streams, all of which fully aligns to the 2019-2022 Strategic Plan – Our Future Now. Importantly, each element of the grant will create benefits at State/Territory and club/association level; we’re extremely mindful of the need to streamline operations around the country and generate tangible outcomes at every layer of the sport.

“We have wanted to develop an entry level program for some time. Most other sports have entry level programs, for example AFL has Auskick or Netball has NetSetGO and we need to ensure we can compete. Once our offering is developed we can encourage young children to start playing table tennis at an earlier age and provide them with age appropriate equipment and exercises so they can have fun, learn new skills and love our great game. This will also help clubs/associations to grow their participation and membership numbers which is crucial.

“We’re also excited to launch our Corporate Table Tennis program. We already know that table tennis is extremely popular in the corporate world, particularly in relation to the tech industry. Now that we’ll be able to provide a genuine program, we can tap into this world and realise the benefits on offer, primarily through establishing a new market for us and growing participation. By establishing ongoing corporate links, we also hope this will increase commercial revenue through sponsorships and partnerships.

“Moreover, we need to increase the quality of our systems that underpin the sport and increase our digital capability. We’re thrilled to partner with Try This to develop the software required to roll out both programs and further streamline our operations across Australia. Try This were pivotal driving the application process for the Move It Aus Participation Grant and we’re thankful for their innovative approach and involvement”.

Sport Australia CEO Kate Palmer said: “The Move It Aus Participation grants were launched to empower organisations to come up with innovative ways to get more Australians moving more often, so it’s great to see Table Tennis Australia using that opportunity to progress their sport.

“Sport Australia’s vision is to make Australia the world’s most active sporting nation and so it’s important to continue providing a diverse range of sports and physical activities that every Australian can enjoy every day.”
