Maggie Meng and Kara Retford Join TTA Staff
Published Mon 01 Jun 2020
TTA is pleased to announce that Maggie Meng and Kara Retford will commence as TTA staff members. Maggie will take on the role of National Coach – Performance Pathway (Para), while Kara will work as National Pathway Development Officer (Para); both roles are full-time. Performance Pathways workforce funding provided by the AIS enabled both roles to eventuate and TTA is appreciative of the support provided by the AIS. Maggie and Kara will work in close collaboration with Sue Stevenson (National Program Manager – Para) and Alois Rosario (National Head Coach – Para).
Maggie has been involved with the National Squad (Para) in recent years, travelling with the team as a coach to multiple international competitions and national training camps. Maggie was a high level player in her own right, formerly being part of the Hebei Provincial team in China; she also holds a Masters Degree in Sports Management and a Bachelor Degree in Law.
Kara brings a wealth of para sport specific knowledge to the role, having worked for Paralympics Australia across multiple roles for the past 13 years, including previous liaison with para table tennis. Kara holds qualifications in sport, recreation, event management and fitness.
TTA CEO Scott Houston commented, ‘We are very pleased to welcome Maggie and Kara as TTA staff members. Our Para Program has gone from strength to strength in recent years, culminating in winning 17 gold medals at international events and being named as a finalist in the AIS High Performance Program of the Year Awards in 2019. Maggie and Kara were clear standouts in strong fields of candidates and recruiting people of their calibre will further advance our Para Program. Finally, I am proud TTA is in a position to hire staff in the current climate; this is testament to the hard work the organisation has put in over the past 2.5 years’.
Maggie will commence on 8 June and Kara will commence on 1 July. Welcome aboard Maggie and Kara.
