High Performance Agreements Locked in for Hobart, Canberra and Adelaide
Published Mon 26 Aug 2019
As per our recent announcement, Commonwealth Games Australia have provided funding to enable multiple high performance initiatives to be enacted across Australia.
TTA is pleased to announce the establishment of the next round of High Performance Agreements, this time in Hobart, Canberra and Adelaide. The programs have been established after agreements have been reached between TTA and Table Tennis Tasmania (TTT) , Table Tennis ACT (TTACT) and Table Tennis South Australia (TTSA). The agreements will see regular and ongoing training provided, increased high performance opportunities, closer collaboration with TTA National Coaches and a more uniform approach to training across each State/Territory.
Upon signing the agreements, TTA CEO Scott Houston commented "Commonwealth Games Australia have been proactive in working with TTA to enable us to better service our State/Territory Associations and we are appreciative of their ongoing support and funding. Ongoing high performance opportunities are pivotal to the development of not only National Squad members, but also to provide a pathway for the next tier of athletes and emerging youngsters. The opportunities for State/Territory coach development cannot be underestimated either. We understand that each State/Territory has different needs and we will work closely with each State to ensure these needs are met. We look forward to working with TTT, TTACT and TTSA to bring these agreements to fruition and thank each body for the willingness to engage".
"Establishing ongoing Training Programs across all eight States/Territories is a key focus of the 2019-2022 Strategic Plan – Our Future Now. With Table Tennis Western Australia, Table Tennis Queensland and Table Tennis Victoria already on board following our recent announcement, we are getting close to realising this goal in the near future".
TTSA President, Paul Langley, commented “TTSA has had a High Performance Program in place since 2006 which has been co-funded by TTSA and the Office of Recreation and Sport. TTSA’s HP program has been an integral part of its strategic plan over this journey with a large number of SA athletes (able bodied and athletes with disabilities) progressing through the program to ultimately represent Australia. TTSA welcomes TTA’s investment in this program and looks forward to working with TTA to build on TTSA’s program for the betterment of SA athletes”.
TTT President, David Nettleton, was equally pleased, “the agreement is going to be beneficial in itself, but also will be the precursor to other ways in which we can jointly create initiatives for the development of our sport. It is a significant step in our history which now needs to be followed through assiduously to ensure its success”.
TTACT President, Michael Drage, further underlined the positive sentiments, stating “this agreement enables us to expand on the this year’s initiative with Dennis Makaling coming on as the TTACT High Performance Director. The motivation levels of the juniors in Canberra have gone through the roof and this will assist them in their aims of top 10 rankings and beyond”.
