German Gold, Silver and Bronze Caps Off Hugely Successful European Tour

Published Sat 11 Dec 2021

Young gun Yangzi Liu saved her best for last, winning the Women’s Singles event overnight at the World Table Tennis Feeder event in Germany. On the last day of competition, Liu was severely tested in the semi final against Chantal Mantz (Germany). After Liu quickly establishing a 2-0 lead, Mantz levelled proceedings and held several game points in the fifth game, but Liu held her nerve to clinch a gutsy 4-2 victory. Then in the final, Liu was in the fast lane, toppling European Champion and World Championships medallist Sabine Winter (Germany) 4-1.

Earlier in the tournament, Liu and Xavier Dixon won their way through to the final of the Mixed Doubles event after a series of strong performances, eventually succumbing in the final but still walking away with a silver medal. Finally, in the Women’s Doubles event, Liu teamed up with Charlotte Carey (Wales), with the duo claiming a bronze medal.
