Cancellation of 2021 Veterans Championships and 2021 Seniors, Youth, Juniors & Para Championships
Published Fri 17 Sep 2021
With great regret, and following consultation with all stakeholders, TTA has decided to cancel the 2021 Veterans Championships and the 2021 Seniors, Youth, Juniors and Para Championships.
We had hoped that COVID-19 spread and jurisdictional travel restrictions would both have reduced sufficiently for the events to proceed in 2021. However:
-
At least Sydney and Melbourne are very likely to have community transmission of COVID-19 in December such that they will be declared “hot spots” by other jurisdictions;
-
Both ACT and NZ are currently in lockdown for several weeks;
-
WA mandates that residents returning to WA from other jurisdictions must enter 14 days quarantine and be subject to testing, which is a barrier to travel for WA players;
-
It seems unlikely that an agreement will be reached and implemented by all jurisdictions which enables free travel between jurisdictions by fully vaccinated individuals in time to conduct the events in 2021.
The TTA Board believed that it was best to make a decision now rather than wait and hope that the situation would change significantly.
The 2022 Seniors, Youth, Juniors and Para Championships is scheduled for July 2022 in Caloundra and the 2022 Veterans Championships is scheduled for October in Darwin. Further details will be provided in due course.
