Corporate Cup: A bonding experience for all organisations
Published Thu 06 May 2021
The latest edition of the Table Tennis Corporate Cup (TTCC) has wrapped up. Finals for the Canberra competition took place on Friday 23 April and the Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne finals took place Friday 30 April.
TTCC allows organisations to band together in a social but competitive environment, developing stronger connections within their own teams.
“It fosters an increased sense of team bonding and it allows us to interact with other companies on a social and competitive level. Plus, it gets our name out there as well,” Canva’s Edward Belokopytov said.
TTCC provides employees the opportunity to get out from behind their desks and be physically active, supporting corporate well-being programs.
“Our managers do encourage us to get out and do something, actually get out and exercise, instead of being so embedded in our daily work,” said Alice Liao from Icon Water.
Many organisations submitted more than one team into the program, giving participants the opportunity to be highly competitive or play for fun and colour, depending on their disposition.
“Everyone gets around each other, we have a B Team and an A Team. The A Team is there for the serious win and the B Team is there to bond over a game of table tennis and provide entertainment,” Dixon Advisory’s George Goodchild said.
This was Logan City Council’s second time participating in TTCC. After walking away with first place last year, the team has continued to grow.
“It is something we always look forward to. We meet up over lunch and play and now because of the competition we are seeing more people from the team come and join in at lunch times,” said Nicholas Ferero from Logan City Council.
Teams used it as a bonding experience, a way to have fun and also display their passion for table tennis.
“The corporate cup allowed RedZed a platform to display our elite table tennis skills to the public and we also learnt something new in the process - that it's possible to finish in second place even if you’re undefeated!” said Jake Tsorlinis from RedZed.
TTCC is also an opportunity for organisations large and small to come together and create networking opportunities for their staff. For MODIS it helps them participate in The Adecco Group Win4 Youth wellbeing program.
“For us to have a lot of fun, we started off this journey playing table tennis on our boardroom table, just practising in the office. This year we have decided to take part in the Corporate Cup, give it our best shot and have fun,” Deepa Bargur from MODIS said.
Gigahire’s Managing Director Danny Da Rocha, added it was a beneficial experience for the organisation and something that aligned well with the company’s values and passions.
“It is a great competition for businesses to get involved in,” he said.
Table Tennis Australia would like to thank the volunteers and staff members at Table Tennis ACT, Table Tennis NSW, Table Tennis Queensland and Table Tennis Victoria who helped, supported and were involved with the Table Tennis Corporate Cup.
