Aditya Sareen Achieves Historic World Ranking
Published Fri 22 Sep 2023
Australia’s shooting star Aditya Sareen has achieved something historic. In the recently published World Ranking, Aditya jumped to the top of the U15 age category which makes him the first Australian in history to do so. In the men’s WR ‘Adi’ leaped to position 37. He was rewarded with his career-best ranking after becoming the youngest Men’s Singles Champion ever at the Oceania Championships in Townsville a fortnight ago.
It was at that same event that he reached the final in all of the six event categories he entered. Aditya has now entered the very small circle of Australian players who have managed to top the WR in any age category. Nicholas Lum (U17 singles), and Nicholas Lum/Finn Luu (U17 Doubles) preceded him in this space last year.
‘I’m beyond happy,’ commented the humble 15-year-old prodigy in disbelief. Adi, who only holds an Australian passport, was born and grew up in Melbourne before his family relocated to New Jersey/US.
Adi trains between two and six hours daily and was recently drafted into the team of the ‘Seattle Spinners’ in the brand-new US Major League Table Tennis which commenced its inaugural season last weekend.
The new heights that Aditya has entered into in the World Ranking come with perks like access to more top-tier WTT events like the Grand Smash, as well as preferential seeding at WTT youth events.
Aditya’s short-term goals include a medal at the World Youth Championships in Slovenia (26 Nov – 3 Dec). However, he has already set his eyes on something bigger: ‘I want to qualify for the Olympic Games'.
Major League Table Tennis can be followed through their website and youtube.
