A Medal and Career Best Victories Headline World Table Tennis Slovenia Results
Published Sun 14 Nov 2021
Play wrapped up for Aussie athletes on Saturday (13 November) at the World Table Tennis Contender event in Slovenia. Australia couldn’t overcome the might of China but our athletes still acquitted themselves strongly.
In the Women’s Doubles semi final, Min Hyung Jee and Yangzi Liu took it right up to Wang Yidi and Liu Weishan (China). The match was evenly poised at one game apiece, before the Chinese pair pulled away to claim a 3-1 victory. The medal for Jee/Liu is the first for Australia at senior level at a World Table Tennis event. As a new doubles combination, they have the makings of being very successful at the international level.
In the Women’s Singles quarter final, Yangzi Liu faced Liu Weishan once again. Although she put up a good fight, the Aussie was unable to secure a game against her higher ranked opponent. However, making the quarter final of a World Table Tennis event at senior level when she is still a junior player and recording a string of strong victories ensures that Liu has enjoyed a very successful tournament.
