The 2022 TTA Tour kicks off this weekend (12-13 March) in Canberra at the Tuggeranong Archery Centre.

TTA is looking forward to welcoming 103 players from six States/Territories who are set to compete across a full quota of events, ranging from Under 11 to Open as well as Para (Class 1-11) during the two-day event.

TTA CEO Scott Houston said the success of the inaugural TTA Tour in 2021 can lead to the events' continued growth.

“After the TTA Tour was successfully piloted last year in Sydney, we have full confidence the event series will continue to grow," he said.

"Canberra is the ideal place to start the Tour in 2022 given the ongoing growth of table tennis in the ACT in recent years and its close proximity for interstate competitors.”

The TTA Tour - Canberra is the first event of 2022 - with tournaments in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane set to follow in the coming months.

The inaugural TTA Tour took place in Sydney last May with Chris Yan and Yangzi Liu winning the Open Singles titles. Unfortunately, the event in Melbourne was cancelled due to the lockdown in Victoria.

“It is pleasing to see that so many players are travelling from interstate to compete, which is a big step forward after COVID-19 impacted many national events in 2020 and 2021 and gives us full confidence to move forward in 2022,” Houston commented.

Yan, a two-time Olympian, had been named as the no.1 seed with the likes of Olympian Heming Hu, two-time Commonwealth Games representative Kane Townsend and Paralympic silver medallist Sam Von Einem also in action in the Men’s Open Singles.

The Men’s Open Singles will feature six round robin groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the main draw. There they will be joined by the eight seeded players in a knockout competition.

Over in the Women’s Open Singles, six-time Olympian Jian Fang Lay and dual Olympic/Paralympic representative Melissa Tapper come in as the top two seeds. Commonwealth Games representative Tracey Feng and Australian junior Connie Psihogios will also feature in the draw.

The competition will see two round robin groups of five players, with the top two from each advancing to the semi-final.

The TTA Tour - Canberra will be live streamed by TTA's long-term broadcast partner, My Sport Live on Saturday 12 March from 8:30am AEDT on our Facebook page.
