Thank You National Veterans Committee

The recent advent of the National Advisory Panel is a big step forward for TTA as it ensures all sections of the table tennis community (Veterans, Para, Senior & Youth, Juniors) have a direct link to the TTA Board. We aim to achieve a more consistent approach across all sections within our community, which will be beneficial for the ongoing development of each area of our game. A primary reason for establishing the National Advisory Panel was due to the success of the National Veterans Committee over more than 20 years – put simply, when dedicated and passionate people come together for the betterment of the sport, positive results invariably occur.

Given that Veterans is now part of the National Advisory Panel, a standalone National Veterans Committee is no longer in place. Rather than seeing this as a loss, the Veterans community and everyone who served on the National Veterans Committee should feel proud that their successes will now enable all areas of the sport to experience the same. Importantly, all the key Veterans functions previously undertaken by the National Veterans Committee have been carried over to the National Advisory Panel.

TTA wishes to take the opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the National Veterans Committee since its inception in 1995. Ken Cole undoubtedly led the charge, serving 17 years as Chair and another 4 years as Committee Member. Glenys Joliffe OAM (19 years), Tony Herbert (13 years) and Prisca Rosario (11 years) also served with distinction as long-standing Committee Members. Cynthia Langley OAM (3 years) and Mike Butcher (4 years) are the two other people who had the honour of serving as Chair. Others who dedicated their time as Committee Members include Margaret Walker (Gabbedy), Irwin Parker, Paul Pinkewich, Bill Sheehan, Belgin Bennett, Jennifer Aduckiewicz and John Sherriff.

TTA appreciates the countless hours of service provided by everyone who sat on the National Veterans Committee and to all those who supported it along the way. We’re looking forward to seeing Veterans continuing to evolve and develop and remaining a pivotal part of the table tennis community through the work of the National Advisory Panel.
