Introducing the Panel for the High-Performance Abled-Bodied Table Tennis Program Review

As recently announced our High Performance Abled Bodied Program will be undergoing a thorough post-Olympic review in the coming months to assess and enhance its structure and effectiveness. This review aims to build on the strengths of our existing program while identifying areas for improvement, ensuring that we remain competitive on the world stage.  

We are pleased to introduce the esteemed review panel that will lead this comprehensive evaluation. This group of professional experts bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, that not only ensures a holistic approach to the review process, but that will help shape the future of table tennis in Australia. With two representatives from the Australian Sports Commission, the panel will be well positioned to ensure independence, integrity and best practice throughout the review process. 

The Review Panel members are: 

  • Richard Redman – Richard has been involved in various aspects of sport and sports law for 20 years. Richard is the current manager of the Leadership & Professionalism team at the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). The team’s purpose is to build the capability across NSOs by supporting the development of individual and collective leadership and safe, holistic high performing cultures. Richard has worked in private practice sports law and previously coordinated the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Oceania Registry) and is now a member of the National Sports Tribunal. He has also sat as a member of the International Paralympic Committee disciplinary tribunal. 
  • Alison Cooke - Alison works alongside Richard at the ASC in the Leadership & Professionalism team and is an AICD graduate. Alison has a Master of Legal Studies, and previously worked at ASADA (SIA) as well as the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Organising Committee. Alison has worked in many areas of sport which include integrity, governance, policy development, athlete leadership and wellbeing. 

  • William Henzell – TTA Life Membership and TTA Hall of Fame Membership. An Australian table tennis legend, William is a 3-time Olympian, 4-time Commonwealth Games representative, 19-time Oceania champion and a 49-time national champion. William holds deep and valuable knowledge of table tennis from both the athlete and operational perspectives. William also has extensive professional experience in corporate leadership and as a company director, holding multiple senior leadership positions, running his own business and earning an MBA.   

  • Steve Knapp – TTA Board Director, Vice President. TTA Life Member and TTA Hall of Fame Member. An Australian table tennis champion Steve represented our nation between 1973-1979, winning 13 international medals, three Oceania titles and 22 national titles. Steve brings a diverse background in financial markets, private business ownership, corporate leadership and expertise as a company director. 

  • Nicole Adamson – TTA Chief Executive Officer. Nicole brings extensive leadership experience and a deep understanding of the high-performance sporting landscape, both nationally and internationally. Having worked previously for organisations like Aus Cycling, Cricket Australia and the Australian Institute of Sport, Nicole has also been a Board Member for Gymnastics Australia and Vic Sport. With a proven track record in driving elite sports programs, Nicole’s insight will be instrumental in guiding the review process to ensure it delivers impactful and forward-thinking recommendations.  

The combination of table tennis expertise and broad sport system knowledge across the review panel, will ensure this comprehensive evaluation will not only strengthen our high performance abled bodied table tennis program, but also position it to thrive in the global arena in the years to come.
