Fran Keyhoe Posthumously Inducted into the TTA Hall of Fame
Published Mon 24 May 2021
The TTA Hall of Fame recognises outstanding contributions made to table tennis in the fields of playing, coaching, officiating and/or administering the sport. A person may only be inducted to the TTA Hall of Fame by meeting the criteria listed in the TTA Hall of Fame Regulations.
TTA is pleased to announce that Fran Keyhoe has been posthumously inducted into the TTA Hall of Fame (Referees & Umpires). Fran is widely regarded as one of the longest serving and hardest working Officials in Australian table tennis history. Fran was a dedicated servant of the game and officiated for more than 30 years until the time of her passing in 2008.
At State and National level, Fran was a mainstay in key officiating positions at club tournaments, State Championships and National Championships across all age groups and classes.
At an international level, Fran held many key officiating positions at the World Championships, Oceania Championships and Pacific Games.
Fran’s contribution as an Official is undeniable, but equally impressive was Fran’s ability to develop and nurture new Officials. Fran was directly responsible for countless Australian Officials progressing through the ranks to enjoy successful officiating careers at State, National and International level; many of whom are still officiating today. Moreover, Fran championed the cause for Referees & Umpires Education in many Oceania countries, regularly travelling early to events to conduct courses to ensure Officials were suitably qualified.
The highest annual National award for Officials is named in Fran’s honour – The Fran Keyhoe Award for the National Official of the Year. This is testament to Fran’s standing in and service to officiating in Australia.
Additionally, Fran’s conduct, characterised by demonstrating good sportsmanship, acting within the spirit of the game, attitude and behaviour, being a positive role model, etiquette and adherence to the laws of the game was a positive example for others to follow.
TTA is extremely pleased to posthumously induct Fran into the TTA Hall of Fame as one of the inaugural Referees & Umpires inductees as this further preserves the memory of the significant contribution she made to Australian table tennis.
Congratulations Fran, you are a most worthy inductee.
